JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW
Co-hosts: Mary Kissel, Wall Street Journal Editorial Board & host of Opinion Journal on WSJ Video. Malcolm Hoenlein, Conference of Presidents.

Hour One
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 1, Block A:    Mary Kissel, Wall Street Journal Editorial Board & host of Opinion Journal on WSJ Video, in re: In radio ratings in New York City, the John Batchelor Show has been identified as the most-listened-to show in its time slot, and has an audience that’s at least half-female.
Pres Obama is making a quick move to turn ICANN, the entity that keeps the Internet free, open and functioning, over to an international crew that includes North Korea, China, and other opaque, non-democratic – in fact, autocratic and tyrannical – nations.    China is a country in decline for the moment.  From, Who Needs the Fed?, more creative destruction. The Chinese model doesn’t allow failure. Capitalism, imperfect though it be, so far serves the greatest numbers most fully.
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 1, Block B:  Edward W Hayes, criminal defense attorney par excellence, in re: Murray Huberfeld, a financier at Platinum Partners, was charged with wire fraud for paying kickbacks to Norman Seabrook, the longtime president of the Correction Officers' Benevolent Association.  Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney, investigating this (on top of NYPD corruption recently).  Are you getting business from this, Eddie?  No, I'd be uncomfortable.  Very stressful, dangerous time for New York.
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 1, Block C: Mona Charen, NPR, in re:  Once a week, NPR goes out of its way to celebrate the anniversary of something – Stonewall, something.  Mrs Clinton is historic as the first woman candidate, she’s flawed – has scandals attached like Velcro.  They’ll say, “Everybody does it.”  A week later, they’ll say, “Oh that ‘s old news.”  Her trustworthy/approval ratings are way down. Anent Mr Trump:  Ken Langone and Steven Schwartzman did not attend. The Koch Brothers will not participate in the presidential congest this year.  While it’s true that one needs a lot of press coverage, one also needs heavy financing; Mrs Clinton has a superPAC, Mr Trump does not.
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 1, Block D: Paule Saviano, photographer who’s published books of photographs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors, and then included photos and stories from the Dresden bombing and similar acts of war; in re:   August 6 and 9 bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Frequently travels to Japan and Europe; has won the trust of survivors.  How did you find them?  Most of them are now gone.  Eight years ago I began writing to survivors and wanted to meet them – we all learned the dates and saw mushroom photos, but I wanted to learn how they lived life afterwards. It took me nine months for someone to say yes: a woman in Nagasaki inquired among survivors, and in 2008 I got permission to meet and photograph eleven survivors. The first series, in Sept 2008, I was at the epicenter of Nagasaki (the site of the second bomb, plutonium); I'd listen to them for an hour or two, then take their picture at the epicenter.    The survivors suffered discrimination for their whole lives: I thought they’d be taken care of by the government, but instead they were treated as outcasts: they’d suffered radiation, and their children were at risk of leukemia.  Recently I was in the Netherlands; out of 120 who survived the Nagasaki bomb, two were there; and one was the son of a survivor.
At the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall the photography show runs from December 14, 2016  until January 1, 2017.  Twenty-three portraits, incl Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Dutch POWs, Koreans in Hiroshima and other survivors.

Exhibition in Nagasaki, December 2016     Paule Saviano's From Above exhibition includes recollections and portraits of survivors of both atomic bombs and are presented along with those who experienced the firebombings of WW II in Europe and Asia.  The exhibition espouses a sincere narrative of peace.  The simplified beauty of the black and white photographs finds echoes in the tactile artistry of minimalist photography.
Previously exhibited at several museums in Japan, the Czech Republic, Germany and most recently at the United Nations, From Above offers an opportunity to hear these survivors message for peace and reconciliation before their voices go silent forever.  The tangible time limit placed on photographing survivors of the WW II generation, along with continuing questions surrounding nuclear technology, assures the viewer of the necessity of this work.
A small number of Saviano's sold-out, limited edition book has been released in connection with the upcoming exhibition.  This first edition was duly rewarded by the Japan Graphic Design Association in February 2012 and has been unavailable since shortly after its release.  It can be purchased exclusively through PhotoEye.com using this link:

Hour Two
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 2, Block A:  Edward Randall "Ed" Royce, member of the United States House of Representatives for California's 39th congressional district and Chair of House Foreign Affairs Committee; in re: Iran, peace process, Congressional update.  Malcolm is a major component of the number-one show in New York at this hour – from nine in the evening to one in the morning.  Greater audience than for the Yankees or the Mets.    / The predatory Iranian regime is using US Treasury dollars to expand its influence.  This Administration does anything to avoid upsetting the Iranian regime. So it in turn pushes as far as possible.   We now have to bar Iran from transferring any money to Hezbollah. We need a policy of backbone, not back down – ICBM program, regional terrorism and human right abuses.    HWH campaign of misinformation.  I interpret it as a disinformation campaign: a tilt not to the people of Iran, esp when when their election was stolen, the WH decided to reach out to the ayatollah, who now call for death to America and Death to Israel.     GPS positioning for a new set of weapons for Hezbollah. Khamenei said last Friday that you cannot trust of cooperate with the US; kibosh on the nuclear deal. Stuart Levy  used to be Asst Secy for the Treasury, was first to push for a sanctions vs Iran, says this is also in violation of international banking regs: the IRGC controls the system so the beneficiaries are the military, Why is the WH pushing banks to do business with a primary money-laundering concern? No explanation but a mindset by Pre s Obama that if we just keep giving things to Iran they’ll become friendly.   We lay out a plan on ISIS, Iran. North Korea.   A sanctions regime to cut off N Korea from the intl network so they can't even pay their general.]s.  I’m proud that the plan asserts that our alliance with Israel is a cornerstone of peace there. Gunmen in black suits went to a popular TLV restaurant, wounded a dozen, killed four.  “Iran’s declared enemy Israel should be the centerpiece of American strategy in the region.

Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 2, Block B: Malcolm Hoenlein, in re: [considerable discussion of the state of the Middle East and intl organizations today].  . . . The one country  in the world treating thousands of wounded from Syria and Lebanon: Israel
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 2, Block C:  Eric Trager, in re: Washington Institute  and author, After Arab Fall, in re: Recent trip to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Egypt.  Egypt has been fighting the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas for [several] years. Despite Cairo’s destroying smuggling tunnels, it still communicates regularly and invites it to meetings n Egypt. ISIS began a media campaign supporting the Sinai insurgency.  ABM in Sinai affiliated w ISIS in 2014; media campaign suggests ISIS’s weakened stare at its core in Syria and Iraq, so turns public attention to outlying areas. MB has been pretty soundly defeated in Egypt. UAE points to its amazing achievements in the last forty years, asks what would happen if the MB took power.  [Disaster.]  Last Friday in Paris may foreign ministers met in “the French Initiative.”  El Sisi was seen as a leader there.  Imagine an Egyptian calling for unity with Israel.   The Eastern Mediterranean Basin: an alliance without the US that’ll be economically successful. El Sisi; “I will not join it; I am in it.”
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 2, Block D:  Omri Ceren, Commentary, and Managing Director for Press and Strategy at The Israel Project (TIP); in re:   Selling the Iran deal.  The State Dept-edited video.  In Washington, need a new Museum of missing audio:  a State Dept official (Jen Psaki) acknowledged that that there were talks between the Obama Adm and Iran long before the WH cares to acknowledge.
The Adm needed to announce that it was serious about holding the Iranians’s feet to the fire,, so they built a narrative that they began late in the game.  Nuland was asked are there secret talks under way? ”No.” Later it emerged that there had been. She was asked, “Is it OK to lie?”  “Yes.”   -- and this question was removed from t h video. This is of a piece with the Ben Rhodes __________.  And the IAEA report from last Friday?  The Administration lied again and again – ballistic missiles, Iran’s nuke program, and claim now that they’re obligated to boost Iran’s economy The IAEA report: now that we see dishonesty, the deal was sold as giving unprecedented transparency. First IAEA report last Fed was missing essential info, contains less information than before the deal.  A conjunction of history, military, physics.  Part of this is arrogance; they like to win, be seen winning, and gloat over it.  They've demonstrated a complete inability to fool us – but they built their echo chamber so it doesn't matter. Inside the Adm: secretly, staff call the WH, “The B Team.”

Hour Three
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 3, Block A:  Micky Rosenfeld, Israeli Police Force Foreign Press Spokesperson and formerly served in the I.P.F. CounterTerror Unit and as head of CounterTerrorist Training for the Border Police;  in re:  Tel Aviv Shooting, Violence in Israel. nine Israelis injured and passed away from wounds; many still in hospital.  How the suspects arrived, if they were familiar with that specific open market . . . we're trying to find out details. They did come in from the West Bank.  Any tie to Ramadan?  That specific area has many rich residents; it's beautiful and it's quiet. So close to the Ministry of Security and its buildings.  Two attackers together; opened foire at close range; may have come in from the north or from Hebron Hills, where the wall is not yet completed.  We’ve stepped up border police patrols.  Tracking social network pages. Ramadan: all remarks thereon came from Hamas.  Today in Jerusalem, more than 3,000 extra police officers.  Jewish holiday starts this Saturday night: Shavu’ot, giving of the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai.  He’ s a lockdown on the whole of the village next to Hebron whence the terrorist cousins came.
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 3, Block B: Tal Shalev, political news correspondent for Walla News; in re:  Israeli politics, new governmental coalition. After this horrible terrorist attack, Liberman was challenged immediately on his accession to the Defense Ministry.  With his being inexperienced in a big and important ministry, the assumption is that he’ll do nothing against [Eisencourt’s?] wishes.  On he day of the attack, Netanyahu was in Moscow; is dealing with political crises one on tip of another, currently a scandal in the Shas Party. The present political coalition: rocky months here, can't make any prediction.  Seems to be a wide agreement that ___ will not join the government.  Bibi now has 66 (no longer 61) votes.  There was a high-profile clash ‘twixt Bibi and Bennett; this week, Shas.  Opponents testing Netanyahu. During the last Gaza War, Liberman called for conquering Gaza. He’s a Russian immigrant. Important for may Russian immigrants, but important to Liberman on a route to Prime Minister.

Hour Four
Thursday  9 June 2016 / Hour 4, Block A: The Dead and Those About to Die: D-Day: The Big Red One at Omaha Beach by John C. McManus PART II of II  (segment 5 of 8)
Nicknamed the Big Red One, 1st Division had fought from North Africa to Sicily, earning a reputation as stalwart warriors on the front lines and rabble-rousers in the rear. Yet on D-Day, these veterans melded with fresh-faced replacements to accomplish one of the most challenging and deadly missions ever.
As the men hit the beach, their equipment was destroyed or washed away, soldiers were cut down by the dozens, and heroes emerged: Sergeant Raymond Strojny, who grabbed a bazooka and engaged in a death duel with a fortified German antitank gun; T/5 Joe Pinder, who braved enemy fire to save a vital radio; Lieutenant John Spalding and Sergeant Phil Streczyk, who together demolished a German strong point overlooking Easy Red, where hundreds of Americans had landed.
Along the way, McManus explores the Gap Assault Team engineers who dealt with the extensive mines and obstacles, suffering nearly a fifty percent casualty rate; highlights officers such as Brigadier General Willard Wyman and Colonel George Taylor, who led the way to victory; and punctures scores of myths surrounding this long-misunderstood battle.
Drawing on a rich array of new or recently unearthed sources, including interviews with veterans, this is the unforgettable story of the Big Red One’s nineteen hours of hell—and their ultimate triumph—on June 6, 1944.    https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Those-About-Die-D-Day/dp/0451415302?ie=UTF8&...
