JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW
Co-host: Larry Kudlow, CNBC senior advisor; & Cumulus Media radio

Hour One
Tuesday  13 September 2016   / Hour 1, Block A: Larry Kudlow, in re:  JFK and the Reagan Revolution: A Secret History of American Prosperity, by Lawrence Kudlow and Brian Demitrovic.
Kudlow and Batchelor on JFK and Douglas Dillon vs Paul Samuelson and John Maynard Keynes.
When Douglas Dillon (Kennedy’s Republican Treasury Secretary) persuaded JFK to lower taxes for all brackets, JFK became the first supply-sider. Harbinger of Reagan’s tax breaks later; in both instances it created 4-5% growth.  Anther persuader was Wilbur Mills (Ways and Means).   Note Kennedy’s emphasis on national security needs: tax diminution led to greater revenues to apply to national security.   Mr Trump is moving this direction, but Mrs Clinton seems to be oblivious to this mechanism.  Also critical: a strong dollar.  We learned this under Bush, when the dollar collapsed. Unfortunately, we seem not to hearken to our clear historical lessons.
“Nose-bleed” taxes and a strangling regulatory environment for small and large businesses are the main factors keeping our current economy at zirp/nirp.
Tuesday  13 September 2016   / Hour 1, Block B: Bran Blase, Mercatus Center, in re:  For the third time the Obama Adm is set to deliver billions of dollars  [$10 bil?] for ACA, under an arcane side-thread intended for a quite different expenditure: a rider to make the risk corridor  budget-neutral.
The deficit for 12015 my have been $5 billion.  Lots of insurers are suing to get more money. but in a Friday-afternoon memo, Adm reversed course and said the Fed are obligated to pay private insurers.  If Congress says “no,” need to take steps . . .  .
. . .  Using the Judgment Fund to appropriate the money?  A bailout for Obamacare insurers.
$30 per carload for one week to stay in Yellowstone – could be many people.  Rather, $11 per person per day would make sense; Disney charges $100 a day.  This will mean that the parks will be better maintained.
Foreigners who come here are not price-responsiceve: they pay thousands for air fare and hundreds for tours; to charge them a fair amount wouldn’t make a dent n attendance, They’re not paying taxes so why shouldn't they pay a bit more?
Tuesday  13 September 2016   / Hour 1, Block C: Terry L Anderson, PERC Montana, in re: Jay Cook raised rates in 1862— his RR was 60 mi from Yellowstone Valley, so Cook went to Congress and got what he wanted:  a mode of bringing tourists to the West.    Put paintings on Congressmen’s desks to persuade them to create a national parks system. . . .  Today, the National Parks cannot afford to maintain the parks and Congress refuses to allow in private enterprise – fixe roads with potholes so bad you can run off the road; raw sewage going into Yellowstone Lake.
An Arizona Democrat called for raising the prices of senior citizens’s lifetime pass from $10 to $80, but AARP screamed.  The park s are currently genuinely in trouble.  Let the parks charge fees that cover costs. Congress resists because it wants to keep the politicians in the park – a Congressman can call and ask for special favors. It controls the purse strings but will not fund essential repairs. This summer I took a photo of the main bathroom facility at the center of  Yosemite National Park – it was horrible.  Need to collect fees at a specific park and those fees need to stay at that park.
Tuesday  13 September 2016   / Hour 1, Block D: Eli Lake, Bloomberg, in re: Huawei. 5G wireless broadband network  - largest telecom eqpt mfr in the world- Africa, UK, Europe, Iran: everywhere. In part because it as at least $100 billion line of credit from the Chinese govt.   Founder is an officer in the People’s Liberation Army; and the CCP manages corporate architecture.   While the head of AT&T isn't formally in the NSA, AT&T lets the NSA use its [channels].  An AT&T spokesman said: having a formal intell assessment of Huawei is helpful.  UK has let Huawei in whereas US and Australia do not.  Espionage? You bet – but the house is already on fire.  Problem: if a co in China makes the cheapest eqpt we need for telecoms and broadband – that’s a major national asset. Even Cisco and others are working in China. Google, et al., has a lot more info about  you than it can sort. What are the limits, how do you watch them? . . . So Larry: do you go with trust?  No, no, no!

It is hoped the ceasefire will provide a window for the delivery of aid to the hundreds of thousands of Syrians in desperate need of food, medicine and other essentials. http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/13/middleeast/syria-ceasefire/  (1 of 4)

Hour Three
Tuesday  13 September 2016   / Hour 3, Block A:   Salena Zito, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, RealClearPolitics, and The Hill; & Dr Lara M Brown, George Washington University, in re:  Western Keystone Democrats Look to Trump. Collar County Philadelphia Wavers Trump.  “. . . The registration drive gets to the heart of the election in Western Pennsylvania. Democrats in these small communities want to hold on to their way of life; they feel their communities have as much value as those of their more-cosmopolitan Democratic cousins, and they cannot reconcile themselves to a national Democratic Party that they feel is working against them. They are the voters whose simple motivation to vote outside of the party they were born into has fallen under the radar of the national press and the polls.
But the energy industry has noticed. “This kind of endeavor is terrifically impactful with voters,” said Ron Sicchitano, the Democratic Party’s chairman here in Washington County. “I’ve got to hand it to them.” Sicchitano, a coal miner, says anti-coal statements by President Barack Obama and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have had a “tremendously devastating” impact on voters in a county that has been reliably Democratic in the past . . .” http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/09/why-democrats-in-western-pennsylvania-are-voting-trump/499577/ (1 of 2)

Hour Four
Tuesday  13 September 2016   / Hour 4, Block A:  Robert Zimmerman, behind the black.com, in re:   Space X, Blue Origin, Ariane Space, ULA, Roscosmos. Mars! “The competition heats up: Blue Origin today unveiled the orbital rocket it plans to launch before 2020, dubbed New Glenn.
Named in honor of John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth, New Glenn is based around two variants – a two stage and a three stage launch vehicle – and a reusable booster stage. No information has been released as to where the booster stage will land, although it is believed Blue Origin is evaluating the option of an “ocean-going platform,” per planning documentation associated with the launch site. “Building, flying, landing, and re-flying New Shepard has taught us so much about how to design for practical, operable reusability. And New Glenn incorporates all of those learnings,” Mr. Bezos added.
Mr. Bezos added that the two-stage New Glenn is 270 feet tall, and its second stage is powered by a single vacuum-optimized BE-4 engine (the BE-4U). The 3-stage New Glenn is 313 feet tall. A single vacuum-optimized BE-3 engine, burning liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, powers its third stage. The booster and the second stage are identical in both variants. The three-stage variant – with its high specific impulse hydrogen upper stage – is capable of flying demanding beyond-LEO missions.
The rocket will be quite large and comparable more to SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy than its Falcon 9, indicating that the competition is not only forcing companies to lower their prices, it is forcing new designs to be larger and have more capacity.”
