Tuesday  25 July 2017 / Hour 1, Block A:.  Matthew Hennessey, associate op-ed editor at The Wall Street Journal; in re: Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe (8 January 1894 – 14 August 1941).  Polish Catholic priest ; ministry across Poland, spent time n Japan; when Nazis rolled in to Poland in 1939, he was on the negative list.  To Auschwitz in 1941.  When one prisoner was led off to be killed and pled not to be because he was the father of a family, Father Kolbe stepped forward and took his place.

Wikipedia:  Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe OFM Conv. was a Polish Conventual Franciscan friar, who volunteered to die in place of a stranger in the German death camp of Auschwitz, located in German-occupied Poland during World War II.  . . . .  Kolbe was canonized on 10 October 1982 by Pope John Paul II, and declared a Martyr of charity. He is the patron saint of drug addicts, political prisoners, families, journalists, prisoners, and the pro-life movement. John Paul II declared him "The Patron Saint of Our Difficult Century"
