JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW

Hour One
Thursday 5 March 2020  / Hour 1, Block A: Victor Davis Hanson, Hoover, in re: Globalization: a good thing?  Microsoft, FB, Google, Apple, and the banks that have lent them money, all have much prospered. However, think of the fact that 80% of the pharmaceuticals in the US have come from China, totalitarian, dictatorial regime, and to this day we don't know the origin of the virus.  Am currently on the Stanford campus, where people who work in the successful companies are returning to the vans and cars in which they have to live because their salaries are tiny. All over the world, people don’t have adequate sanitary conditions, or enough to live on.
Economic nationalism: if we had the manufacturing capability. We could maintain our GDP. After the virus, do we revert to our previous dependence? I think not.  We need to have a certain percentage here at home.
As for the Straits of Hormuz, Americans won't go die to give the Europeans an open seaway. Nationalism did not cause WWI; it was German [aggression].  “Nationalism” actually means patriotism. We’ve probably been dealing with this virus for a few months and didn't realize it; meaning, we can survive it.
Thursday 5 March 2020  / Hour 1, Block B: Victor Davis Hanson, Hoover, in re: Democratic party switch in the last 48 hours: Biden’s “Lazarus” rise, as Ed Luce of the Economist writes.   Biden was bewildered on stage and said very odd things; Bloomberg stepped in to the breach; Bernie kept praising Cuba and the USSR, so the Democratic honchos brought Biden out of the closet.  Mythical tales of his valor as a lifeguard, doesn't know what state he’s in, will appoint the first Black Senator . . .  Charles Schumer said something entirely unacceptable to two Justices of the Supreme Court.
Thursday 5 March 2020  / Hour 1, Block C: Conrad Black, NRO, historian and publisher, @ConradMBlack, in re:  It's a puzzle to know what Biden thinks that may be original?  He’s a comforting figure, speaking as Democrats have since the Roosevelt era. Does he have the stamina required of the high office he’s seeking? . . .  The president has delivered a strong economy; as he says, it’s occurred because he’s defended the country.  When this declines, public morale will be much assuaged.
Senator Schumer said something fearful to two Justices of the Supreme Court. “I was shocked; for him to shake his fist and threaten Justices is disgraceful. This has got to stop.”
Thursday 5 March 2020  / Hour 1, Block D: John Cochrane, Hoover, in re: The state was unprepared for the epidemic.  Ergo, after the Central banks move together—then what?  https://johnhcochrane.blogspot.com/2020/03/corona-virus-monetary-policy....
