Hour One
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 1, Block A: Bill Roggio, Long War Journal and FDD, in re:
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 1, Block B: Bill Roggio, Long War Journal and FDD, in re:   Islamic State in the Sinai claims to have brought down the Metrojet headed to St Petersburg – boasting of mass murder, then complaining that the Russians are war criminals by bombing the ISIS capital for butchery. . Al Nusrah decided to back out of some areas, into which ISIS moved, as well as conquered other spaces.   ISIS is under attack from Assad, Iranians Hezbollah, and the Russians. Will meet face to face in Aleppo.  Claim that Russians launched air strikes in Abu Kamal, on the other side to Anbar Province; that Russians are bombing markets, children.  It's propaganda, and yet may be true.  See pix on LongWarJournal.  Russians cut a bridge in half – why hasn't the US done this in advance??  "Zero casualties" is Pres Obama's program. Makes no sense in Raqqa, which is wholly owned and controlled by ISIS. Russians have no problem with this.  Destroyed a stack of vehicles.  Also, see fire eqpt.   Russians are targeting vehicles in Raqqa. Why's the fire truck still sitting there??   US is not trying to win, just sitting out the clock.  US calls it something or other; Russia calls it war.
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 1, Block C:  Gordon Chang, Forbes.com, in re: Three different reports on China's manipulating the Chinese economy, expanding militarily into internati0nal waters, and interfering in Taiwan's democracy.  The Chinese model is no longer working. Paracel Islands.  Chinese may have planned this all along.  Could not have brought fighters out this swiftly; must have been in the works for a long time. Militarize the Parcels and Spratleys.  No longer just freedom of navigation – threatening navigation and air traffic throughout the region. The US and its allies are militarizing, incl Vietnam, Philippines, many others; US response must be both to work with allies and to keep our navy strong – always have a carrier and a sub very nearby. Have given their air force 360 more miles of range with Woody Island. Nuisance but can be taken out easily - it's only a question of will. The Taiwanese president, Ma Ying-jeou, travels to Singapore to meet Xi Jinping. Beijing interferes in Taiwanese democracy.   In a poll: apparently ins= response to this Tsai Ing-wen, Ma's opponent in the upcoming election, has picked up many points.  Mainland may interfere brutally. How? Wait till Jan 2016 installation of new president; until then, would use its gangs and triads in TW to create dangerous disturbances.  Need to be very concerned.  Washington needs to start talking with the new govt immediately.  Pres Ma is deeply, intimately entwined with the Mainland.  This is conspiracy. /  Chinese central bank nationalized the stock market: you just buy shares and hope for he best. Last Thursday, into bull territory, same on Friday. This will be a problem because there's no fundamental supporting the mkt, only Xii making happy noises.    Same thing last spring and the boom ended in a crash. From London: Chinese investors looking to buy anything at all possible. Huge capital flight.  Net capital outflow $463billion in three months. The only plan that would work would be to trust the markets, have the Party withdraw from , but the Party refuses to relinquish one whit of its overweening power, so has no plan B.
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 1, Block D:  Patrick Tucker, Defense One, in re: Metrojet falls out of sky at 30,000 feet. Responsibility taken by ISIS. Report from Syria: Aleppo associates send out a video of the fall. Mass surveillance - How the Russian Crash Investigation Could Alter the War on Encryption  If intercepted communications prove an ISIS bomb caused the crash in Egypt, it could be just the boost surveillance state advocates need. End-to-end encryption*;  UK: The so-called Investigatory Powers Bill also mandates that Internet companies retain detailed logs of their users’ Internet browsing activity for a year. Intercepted comms from US say that ISI is suspect Number One.
* End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is a digital communications system that facilitates two or more parties, known as communication endpoints, to communicate securely through an untrusted third-party, such as telecommunications service providers, Internet providers, or application service providers. E2EE can also describe a storage system where encrypted data are stored (temporarily or permanently) in an untrusted third-party where only the authorized users of the storage have the secret to decrypt the data. Since the third-party has no knowledge of the data being communicated or stored, surveillance and tampering are impossible and therefore confidentiality and integrity of the data are ensured.

Hour Two
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 2, Block A: John Fund, National Review Online, in re:  Tomorrow night, eight candidates.  Trump and Carson, it won't take much to be more specific; have dawdled in generalities so far.  Lanes: amateurs, moderates, and Tea Party. The third is crowded with Cruz and Rubio.  Bush loses steam.  Rubio is the Tea Party challenger; Cruz's strategy is to stay in the right lane.  He thinks there's enough room there for him to be the nominee. Raising lots of money.  Bernie Sanders: "Everybody's sick and tired of the email" – he seems to be regretting that. Has met with Joe Biden(?) and may have got coaching. If Sanders were running to win, you'd think he'd be brandishing email, "Diane Reynolds" (the nom de guerre of Chelsea Clinton), and the rest; he's trying to move the Democratic Party to the left, thinks that Clinton will be the nominee, he can be the ideological Rasputin.    Biden never said he'd never run; is he waiting for more FBI info? Easier for VP Biden not to run at present, but may be invited to run in future.  that'd give him a much easier Christmas/Hanukkah season.
"As the campaign began analyzing his bills and bank statements, it waited a little longer to set a trap for critics” politico.com/story/2015/11/   Clinton Signed NDA Laying Out Criminal Penalties for Mishandling of Classified Info ; Carson slams reporters over questions about his pastBen Carson Facing Scrutiny for Claim About Incident at Yale University

Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 2, Block B: David M Drucker, Washington Examiner Senior Congressional correspondent, in re: Cruz and Rubio have to convey to the public that  they're presidential. They'll have to engage at some point, but probably not on Tuesday.  Cruz and Rubio are both attractive, know that hey can win all the way to February.  Both on long-term plans.  In strategic, deliberate campaign plans.  If they both peak in February, will have to [battle] then.  Both represent new, fresh, populist, conservative thought.  Conservatism in DC: free-mkt, ltd govt, strong natl defense. A bit of Reagan, but not so many ties to bz community. Populist: more in the Trump vein, more demagogic? Less free trade. less focus on reform, just better-run, and a mixture of opinions that don't fit the GOP, as well as the largest police state since the Roman empire.  Bernie Sanders?  Dunno what he wants – didn't expect to be in htis position; thinks more of pushing an idea, not wining a campaign, not know what to do about it.  "Dog must be careful – sometimes he may catch the car.'  Sanders doesn't have it in him to damage Mrs Clinton.
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 2, Block C:  Malcolm Hoenlein, Conference of Presidents, in re: https://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/middle-east/2015/11/09/Russia-Iran-sign-contract-for-air-defence-system-.html    Kristallnacht, 77 years later.  Beginning of the Holocaust.  he shattering of the glass everywhere looked like crystal in the Moon; but it was a Nazi ploy, as when the fire trucks arrived they prevented Jews from rushing n to save the Torahs from 1,700 synagogues. It was well orchestrated in advance.  Led to the rest of the events that we saw in 1945.  the horror was systematically implements, led directly to the genocide, The absence of the world's condemnation: reports worldwide that these events took place; all used Nazi propaganda – low figures, lying descriptions. Many Jews left swiftly, but many refused to believe how horrifying it would become. The US president at the time, FDR, was asked, his reaction; said he was horrified - then refused to do anything to help.  /  Yitzhak Navon, the fifth president of Israel, was chief of staff for David Ben-Gurion, was among the founders of the state. Family was Sephardic, had lived in Jerusalem for over 300 years, was in the intelligence unit; elected president, reached out to Israeli Arabs, invited to Egypt by Anwar Sadat and gave his speech in Arabic.  Told us [Malcolm Hoenlein and his colleagues]  the internal events of the founding of the state.    PM Netanyahu visited Washington today: both he and Pres Obama wanted improved optics and some personal "healing."  Agriculture, security, missile defense (David's Sling, Iron Dome, et al.)  – many issues of common intentions.   . . . Critical issues: the MOU [memorandum of understanding], expires next year.  need to focus on the next ten years; pres Obama said he wanted to  resolve it.   The $150 bilion soon going to Iran changes the landscape.
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 2, Block D: Malcolm Hoenlein, Conference of Presidents, in re: . .  Abbas's knife intifada is about al Aqsa being under siege - which it emphatically is not and has not been. This could bite Abbas, maybe bring in al Qaeda.   . . . Putin said the West should support the Kurds even if it angers Turkey and the Saudis.  The S300 sale to Iran is critical – Can take down planes 300 km away but Putin trying to paint it as only defensive.  Love-hate relations between Iran and Russia, but for the moment they have joint interests.  Russia sells $20 bil PA, makes huge sums on the nuclear sales.

Hour Three
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 3, Block A: Mary Kissel, Wall Street Journal Editorial Board & host of Opinion Journal on WSJ Video; in re:
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 3, Block B: John Tamny, Forbes.com, RealClearMarkets, in re: For his desire to start a trade war with China alone, Donald Trump is wholly unqualified for the White House.  Nothing Bush or Obama enacted was ever this dangerous.  Still, the criticism of Trump's wealth - that it was achieved in crony fashion, inherited, that he's just a brand, that he's experienced several bankruptcies - is adolescent, emotional, and wholly confused.  Most shameful is that a lot of the criticism is coming from the right.  The arrows thrown at Trump's business achievements should offend the right in the way that "You didn't build that" once did.   Criticism of Donald Trump, the Businessman: 'You Didn't Build That', Right Wing Edition
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 3, Block C: John Cochrane, Hoover, in re:
Sclerotic growth is the overriding economic issue of our time. From 1950 to 2000 the US economy grew at an average rate of 3.5% per year. Since 2000, it has grown at half that rate, 1.7%. From the bottom of the great recession in 2009, usually a time of super-fast catch-up growth, it has only grown at two percent per year. Two percent, or less, is starting to look like the new normal…  http://www.hoover.org/research/elections-most-important-issue
Monday 9 November 2015 / Hour 3, Block D: Susan Berfield, Bloomberg Businessweek, in re: BATTERIES WITH A POLITICAL CHARGE. Chinese management has managed to turn around A123 Systems, a tarnished showpiece of the Obama administration’s stimulus-era loan program for electric vehicles, by cutting costs and taking advantage of hundreds of millions of dollars of U.S. investment.
