GM Fights the Cold War in the 21st Century.

Spoke to Lou Ann Hammond, Carlist.com, Sunday 30 re the unusual, contradictory and unacceptable hold up of the Opel deal in Germany -- GM refusing to sell off a European subsidiary to a generous offer from Magna International. Lou Ann Hammond told me it is because the Russians are in on the deal with the Germans, who are loaning the money to Magna, and GM has decided this means that the intellectual property rights of Opel will wind up in Moscow as well as Berlin. In sum, a Cold War dispute, with GM in the role of the Leader of the Free World, Berlin in the role of stage for espionage and intrigue, and Moscow as Center, the old KGB First Directorate aiming to trick critical secrets from the US. All of this is laughable. GM does not exist. Kaput. It is the Post Office with wheels. It is whatever POTUS and his Politburo says it is. See the above deal with GM building light trucks in China. How come it is okay to share intellectual property rights with the Chinese spies from the Beijing bullies and not okay to share with the Russian spies? Because POTUS has decided he would rather sell out to China, where the Treasury debt exists inside vaults, then to Moscow, which is a tad hostile ever since POTUS demonstrated American arrogance and ineffectiveness at the Moscow summit earlier in the summer.

Berlin and Moscow Axis.

What is most critical about the Opel deal is that it is an illustration of the new born power of the Eurasia Bloc. Russia's energy and Germany's banking and manufacturing have joined, through the office of Angela Merkel and Dmitry Medvedev, to create a world-scale alliance, a superpower in the making, and the US is most definitely not invited.  What is most critical about the China deal is that the Obama administration has no policy other than complete obeisance or passivity to the Beijing mob -- just at the moment that the mob weakens from the slip in the GDP and the uprising of the Lhasa and Urumqi and Taipei patriots.  Washington becomes Paris, 1933: every twist in Germany is acceptable because we must avoid war, and meantime we will act tough to rude London and fragile Washington.  We need Moscow to police the Stans.  We need Germany to reorganize Russia and Eastern Europe.  We do not need the bullies and back-stabbers of Beijing.  The Obama team is off track, appeasing the wrong parasite and antagonizing the wrong bear.

Chaparral Wildfire and the Drought 2009

To Be Avoided.

Speaking Sunday 30 with Steve Davis, Pepperdine University, a distinguished botanist who has long studied the coastal chaparral forest of California, re the large, threatening wildfire now burning in the Angeles Forest area of Southern California. Professor Davis tells me that what is burning intensely is the chaparral itself (see below), but that conditions are dire because of the extended heat wave and the continental wide drought conditions.  The vegetation is parched, thick, and in areas that are inaccessible.  The biggest fire, the so-called Station Fire, is in mountains running east-west, called transverse mountains, unusual for California.  The winds from the desert and coast are channeled through the mountains.  Steve Davis tells me that the pines have thick tubular roots that will like smolder for days under the surface and must be watched.  Also the smoke from the fires is especially irritating as it sweeps down into the valley and across the LA area, containing many particulates that are loaded with unpleasant resins.  To be avoided.  The LA fires are significant also because this is another expression of the drought this year in North and South America (Texas the worst drought in 50 years), which may or may not be part of a climate change, or a desertification process, but is certainly illustrative of conditions that are awaiting an abundant El Nino coming on.

Where is Joe Biden?

I also mention that this would be a smashing good time for POTUS or VPOTUS to airlift into Southern California for sensational photo ops walking and talking with the bold firefighters.  The Clinton administration was gifted at visiting disaster sites to convey a sense of compassion and leadership.  The Bush administration gave us a new low in pity with the Katrina fiasco of four years ago.  The Obama team could copy the successful model used by Al Gore as VPOTUS.   Joe Biden, you will look good in a hardhat and fire fighting gear.

What is Burning?

Congressman Greenhouse

Villainous Big Oil.

Thumbnail image for greenhouseeffect.jpg
The Greenhouse-Is-Coming! (greens) subset of the Mothership Moveon.org employs its ingenious skill at mockery and launches an attack ad on several House members who voted "Yes for  Greenhouse" (that is "No") on the celebrated and slightly gaudy Cap and Trade bill of last June. One of the "Yes for Greenhouse" (that is, "No") votes was Thaddeus McCotter, Michigan 11th (R), who can now wear this 527 attack ad like a get-out-of-jail-free badge during the collapse of the global warming mania the next few months in Congress.   The science for global warming is a hodge-podge of scenic anecdotal assertions without comprehensive data, an unhappy condition that now routinely sends planetologists into agnostic schools while awaiting another few centuries of ice core samples, tree rings of volcanic events, and the always tedious need to explain past sharp climate changes before there was such a contraption as a coal-driven electric-generating plant or such a cartoon villain as Big Oil.

Here Comes the Sun.

midi163.gif
A sinister suspect for climate change is the sun, a fact not much considered before Mrs. Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel mugged the Democrats to deliver 219 votes in the House.  I will speak again with Bob Zimmerman on Sunday 30 re the current unusually long solar minimum, now approaching its 50th day without any sunspots, and how this may be a predicate for a much cooler winter ahead.  Bob Zimmerman tells me that even the fountain of climate change science, Science Magazine, which I read regularly, has started to move toward looking at the sun as a major contributor to the Earth climate.  There is also the note from the pundits that the Democratic consensus for healthcare reform started to fall apart with the Cap and Trade vote.  Why?  Because taxpayers were disgusted with the rushed, contrived Cap and Trade legislation based upon conjecture and fashion -- legislation that is coldly designed to turn into mountain range of new taxes on the citizenry -- and the Turfers at the infamous August town halls have expressed their anger at the global warming cult almost as much as they have howled about death panels and rationing.  Moveon.org may be providing the congressmen it assaults a new face in the House as the politicians who stood up against another Scopes fiasco for the Democrats, another William Jennings Bryan prosecution of the scientific method.

Kabul TKO

Loss of Face.

Slowly, slowly the US reporters are getting out the story which we first heard from Ann Marlowe on Saturday 22 that the Karzai cronies committed such grotesque vote fraud that the election cannot go forward and the US viceroy Richard Holbrooke must cancel the first round and mandate a do-over called a second round. Karzai is said to have slammed his hat on the desk in the argument with Holbrooke forty hours past. Karzai's team then leaked the report that Holbrooke had yelled at Karzai.  Details provided by the Pashtun cheerleaders included Karzai reminded Holbrooke that he was the leader of a "sovereign state."  This is witty.  Karzai is a man who knows how to bite the hand that feeds him with style and a butcher's bill due.  I am told that Karzai's bill will be very high after this TKO loss of face.  Ann Marlowe tells me that the only event that moves the Pashtuns to demand a blood price is a loss of face.

POTUS Politburo Stalled.

US-envoy-to-Afganistan-Rich.jpg
The POTUS Politburo plan was to certify Karzai as the re-elected president (last election in '04 showed a 55% win for Karzai), and then to rush into the peace negotations with the Taliban and Al Qaeda.  The plan is now stalled if not abandoned.  Dr. Abdullah, the putative winner of the first round, will stand by and watch Karzai counter-attack.  Karzai will rally the Pashtuns, who do not want anything to do with a strong, centralized state and never did.  The Politburo will not blame Karzai or Holbrooke.  It will blame, I am told, Petraeus and McChrystal.  That is what a military mission is for -- to blame when the diplomacy card is palmed by the White House.  I can hear Holbrooke screaming at Karzai, "Your name will figure prominently in my report to Federation Central!"  Then, "Get me McChrystal!"

Diversity Tour

Oppo Army of Two.

Little of what Beck and Limbaugh discuss here comes to anything more than the usual talk show hype. Chavez, censorship, diversity, takeover, Alinsky, like a mash-up of the first eight months of trash-talking POTUS and his Young Guns. What is most intriguing is not that these two Premier Radio Network colleagues are working to promote each other -- and good for them for searching for business for radio -- but that so little is going on with the Obama administration.  How weak is the White House Politburo?  After the Apology Tour comes the Diversity Tour?  This is an offensive strategy?  Does POTUS understand that very few of us pay any mind at all to news from the cables and talk radio?  That most of our news comes from the web?  That when the White House or POTUS mentions talk radio it is all we know of it?  It is the right and proper and Austrian School thing to do for two burlesque stars like Beck and Limbaugh to promote themselves and their gifted palaver and their popularity.  But what is the Obama administration thinking when it spends 15 seconds on what talk radio talks about?

Polls.

The proper work for the Obama administration is the POTUS approval rating, and it is surprisingly weak this early in the term.  Weaker than George W. Bush before 9/11.   And now comes noise from Kabul that Politburo mouthpiece Richard Holbrooke is imitating Rahm Emanuel in a screaming match with Hamid Karzai because of the grotesque voter fraud, and now comes word that the Democratic Senate has given up on finding a solution and is game-boarding the ultimate ploy, so-called Reconciliation, which means a trick to get something shoved through the Senate on healthcare.  Both Kabul and Reconciliation are blows to the Obama polls ahead of us.  POTUS does well when he is the victim of GOP conniving.  The GOP has vanished, however, leaving behind only the stormy surrogates on talk radio and Fox.  This returns the case to the original problem.  The White House is feuding with cable and radio as if it was a real opposition.  It is not.  Beck and Limbaugh and their colleagues are scripted performers who are on stage only for the purpose of driving ratings.  There is no genuine national policy in a TV or radio presentation.  All script.  Nothing else there.  Does POTUS think a script is undermining his government?   Truly?

Trashing 1969

Vineyard News.

CARTOON_606133a.jpg
My lone memory of Ted Kennedy was the summer of 1969, at the beach in Jersey one warm day with the transistor radio onto the news, when I heard of an accident at a place called Chappaquidick on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. It was the summer of the moon landing and Woodstock, and this event was stuck in between like a lurid short story. I can remember thinking that this sounded like a strange story -- the young senator driving at the beach with a female companion who was not his wife, the car plunging into the water, the senator safe but the companion presumed drowned. I didn't pay that much attention. It was 1969, and the Kennedys were royalty. I was so much older then.   I am young enough now to know that the announcement on the radio was the end of Camelot and the beginning of forty years of a farce called "Ted's liberal agenda." Everything that's happened since -- was it all twisted by the fact that Chappaquidick did not end the Kennedys? When you cheat fate by trashing the law, is what's left worth cheating for?  I am told that Ted Kennedy's endorsement of POTUS is what launched his ship against HRC.  What was it really worth?  A dishonored word?  What does it mean that still we have not seen an honest accounting for that summer day in 1969?  Does it mean that we must watch men and women on TV, who were not even born when Mary Jo Kopechne drowned, pretend that Ted Kennedy was "flawed"?  That the martyrdom of his brothers created a second and third and fourth chance for the mournful senator from Massachusetts?  Perhaps.  It will be instructive to see how POTUS and his capaciously articulate Politboro make use of the Ted Kennedy's death as they struggle to give birth to Ted Kennedy's legacy.   RIP Ted Kennedy.

How Rahm Is Reviving the GOP

How Rahm Is Reviving the GOP.

Republicans are once again ascendant-and for this they can thank Rahm Emanuel. John Batchelor gets the scoop from gl...

  Posted 6:45 AM | Aug 25, 2009

Suddenly the disgraced and demoralized Republican Congress has an unearned future, thanks to the superhuman clumsiness of a man who has made himself indispensable to the Obama administration and insufferable to the Democratic Congress, chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

The GOP always knew that Emanuel was a problem that could not be solved and could only be endured while he served three tempestuous terms in the House. But now the beleaguered Democratic majority is learning painfully that Emanuel's talents for bullying, whimsical favoritism, cheerful power-grabbing, and self-congratulatory earthiness have transformed the first hundred days of the Obama administration's seamless accomplishment into a second hundred days of blame and gloom....

I don't feel sorry for the dyed-in-the-wool dems 'cause they know politics is a dirty game. I feel sorry for all the wide-eyed innocents; the college kids new to voting, the independents who felt this was a new kind of politics, the senior citizens who have seen it all and thought this time was different. Welcome to Washington, welcome to real life. True, the public usually votes their pocketbook, but our elected officials ALWAYS vote theirs.

Mr Emanuel isn't a prohabition era Capone or Schultz. He's more dangerous. Rahm is on his way to becoming the man Pres Obama can't replace. No, he isn't Cheney or Rumsfeld, he's much smarter; he can be stealthy-if it suits his purposes.
If the Republicans persist in underestimating Mr Emanuel, it's their funeral, quick, closed casket or cremation, no wake, no flowers, sans any eulogy or other flourishes.
If the GOP falls apart & vanishes as the Whigs did in the 19th century, Rahm will have an iron clad alabi. To back up his all to plausible(sp?) of neither wishing or doing the GOP any harm at any time. Don't put anything past Mr Emanuel. Pres Obama had to offer Mr Emanuel a deal that he couldn't refuse to have him Obama's chief of staff. Mr Emanuel could still become the 1st Jewish, Speaker of the House. Rahm could also be a master of the waiting game.
To survive, it's prudent to be afraid of Mr Emanuel
Rahm may have plans to force W, et al to give an account of all of their activities from 1/20/01 to 1/20/09. Some will be tempted to call it a blood a blood purge. W, et al will have to pay a high price to cop a plea to avoid the gurney at the fed pen, Ft Wayne, In or elsewhere. We who relentlessly push for treason trials for W & co will be astonished as the Bushies rat out on each other-if Mr Emanuel finds it to his advantage to play for blood against the hapless Bushies & the GOP.
The GOP could be left eviscerated as life leaves the GOP with each spurt of arterial blood. Mr Emanuel may not decimate the GOP. Why leave 9 of 10 Republicans alive? It won't take that many Republicans to take the corpses from the scene & mop up GOP blood.
If Republicans are to die in an informal, ad hoc way sans indictments & trials, they will die quickly & out of sight. Only 1 of every 20 or 40 Republicans will be needed to quickly & quietly dispose of the great number dead bodies of unfortunate Republicans. Mopping up any blood a Republican might lose in dying can be done quickly & completly by the surviving Republicans. Mr Emanuel dislikes blood baths & No Drama Obama is his boss.
Who can guess how many of those Republicans found guilty of incidents or episodes of treason, war crimes & other crimes against humanity from 1/20/01 till 1/20/09 will receive the death penalty?
It's obvious that I'm speculating by using Stupidly, Wildly, Absurd, Guesses in lieu of any facts. But do be careful of getting in Mr Emanuel's way. That is prudent.

Rahm Emmanuel is probably the one running the White House while Obama is flying all over the country doing campaign speeches & trying to impress himself. Ezekiel Emmanuel is the composer of the government run health care bill. You know the one that we are screaming '"KILL THE HEALTH CARE BILL". They will have too many other things slipped into it that we do not want & we won't find out about until it is too late. We need to also"KILL THE CAP & TRADE BILL". It will cost millions their jobs. We need to Drill Here & Drill Now off of our coasts & in Alaska. We do not want Obama giving Brazil 2 million for them to drill of their coast. That has something to do wit George Soros. I'm sure Rahm has some decision making in on all of this if not all the decision making but it needs to be stopped. I thought Rahm would have enough clout to stop Holder but evidently he is going to try to use that as to keep our minds on that & off of healthcare or some other bill they want to sneak & force down our throats. Oh yes we need not to forget about the little Waxman guy. The little man that when he gets a little bit of power he abuses the heck out of it because he is such an a--.

This guy hates Rahm so much that he can't even write straight. C'mon, Turd Blossum was worse than Rahm can even imagine being. Did Batchelor take TraitoRove to task for his treasonous outing of Valerie Plame? Talk about an abuse of power. He took down a covert CIA agent involved in WMD's for purely political reasons--to get back at her husband, because he had the unmitigated gall to expose one of TraitoRoves war lies. Oh, but Batchelor is complaining about a little political bullying. Let's put Rove and Bush and Cheney, et al., in prison for their war crimes--for a real abuse of power.

The Democratic party's erectile disfunction has nothing to do with the "big mean Jew" in the White House. It has to do with the fact that they're a bunch of p*ssies who can't stand up to flabby, aging, hypocritical Republicans and their clearly shrinking base.

(Seriously, Dems...wtf? It took about one week to watch Glenn Beck get his sack stapled to a desk chair. What is your major malfunction? Grow some balls or get out.)

Right wing America is making a lot of noise. Big frikken deal. Count the actual number of screaming idiots on your TV screen, then subtract that from the US population. Factor in the people who actually have a life, don't need a gun to get aroused and are not racist...and the GOP can essentially can go f*ck itself.

Yes I used the P-word and the F-word. I pray on Fridays. Want to blame me for something too? It's not Rahm Emmanuel, you crybabies. It's a bunch of chickensh*t politicians who can be replaced if they won't do the job.

What is the DIFFERENCE between Rahm and the Republicans?

Not that much. Rahm is a DLC-er--a moderate Republican in everything but name. Naturally, the far Right-wing Republicans hate him, but they also hate Powell, Clinton and even McCain.

Rahm is telling Obama to be like Bill Clinton, and fill the administration with DLC types. Obama's "progressive" base has already abandoned him, and vice versa. This is probably what they planned all along, once the election was over.

I have to admit, Obama fooled us completely. He was the only politician in my adult life who fooled me, since I assume most of them are liars and crooks, but Obama's false advertising was brilliant.

Last year, when Barack Obama was elected to the Presidency of this country the Republicans, and many other species of person, soiled their pants and to this day they are still wallowing in their excrement. Sticky, smelly and very uncomfortable.

This is why they are so miserable and against anything and everything that is happening in this country.

It is not the health care system, it is not the economy, it is nothing but their terrified condition as the to profound change in this country.

Before Barack Obma even took over George Bushs position these were the people who immediately declared it their fervent hope that the new presidency fail, the ones who cheered when that idiot Texas Governor raised the specter of secession, the ones who waste their time on silly posters and pictures of watermelons.

When you really stop to think about all this you realize just how in pain these people are. These poor individuals, when the election happened last fall, not only lost their minds but any pretense of enlightenment.

So, every day, day after day, they flounder in their soiled pants. squeeking here, squeeking there. Loading their guns, unloading their guns, screaming about "death panels" Silly fools, screaming each day about "socialism" never ever realizing that our schools, our libraries, our fire departments, our police departments are all "socialized".

In the meantime these fools abstain froim any moral responsibility in the eternal debate.

One never knows whether they should laugh or cry. I guess I could cry because these bastards have ceased to be funny.

I would agree with you degeezee that his quoted source is beyond suspect, but I would go further to say that this isn't journalism at all. Its simply opinion, and thats fine, but Batchelor's intent seems to be to create an idea of Rahm that doesnt exist because Cons are afraid of him. The fact that he was protected by Cons in congress while he was there confuses blogger Con clowns like Batchelor, they hate the idea of a strong arm political strategist on the Dems side that now is at a high level of power. Batchelor's intent with this article is an attempt to curb that power, albeit with a poorly written and factually suspect piece. Lets not let the tyranny of the stupid prevent progress.

lol you need to check your history a little closer bully politics gets you short term gains only (your latest hero LBJ for example) Since this healthcare reform doesn't even start to kick in until 2013, you might want to keep a little power to make sure the other side doesn't have a chance to gut it before anyone becomes dependent on it. If you use that nuclear option to pass it, the other side will have a green light to use it to gut it.

The democrats big mistake is flailing away at republicans. IThey could agree 100% when democrats call republicans names or failures or demonize individuals and still lose because independents don't think that's them. And it's not!

Obama got the independent vote by acting like a moderate. He's only going to get their support for his agenda by being a moderate. It's that simple. If he was just manipulating them to get their vote so he could pass a liberal agenda, he'll lose them.

So he is an SOB but he is our SOB
He is Obamas bad cop allowing Obama to appear above the fray
He is doing for Obama what DeLay did for Bush
Party cohesion
Congress's main concern especially the House is its reelection
every 2 years
They wont make the hard votes if it costs them reelection/campaign $ from special interests

At the beginning of the story, the writer has Grassley as (R-Grant Wood). Dude, can you not edit properly? I get it -- you're writing, you know his state is the one that Wood is from (who painted American Gothic). But, seriously, my concern is that if you are writing for such a public platform, you really should know Grassley's from IOWA.

What the hell does this mean:
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Grant Wood)
I'm no expert, but shouldn't that be (R-(home state))?
Forgive the parenthesis mess...

what is john batchelor?
is there anything of value to be learned from this article?
is this article the proof of why we so often say " Thankfully we live in a country where anybody can say anything they want to say? "

LOL - Rahm must really be wounding the GOP for Batchelor and the other right wingers to be putting this kind of stuff out there. They fear and hate Rahm because he doesn't take their sh!t.
