Off Game?

Humbuggery Skullduggery.

Far back in May, the question was why does the White House bloviate on an August 6 deadline for healthcare? Why push the Senate to do what it cannot do, which is to go fast when a minority rules? Why push the House to do what it cannot do, which is to cut costs and avoid raising taxes? This evening POTUS did not advance a single reason why he has watched his Politburo hustle the two houses of Congress for the last eight weeks to do the nearly impossible, which is to skip humbuggery and skullduggery and deliver a victory for a partisan president. POTUS is a Democrat ruling a Democratic majority without skills at consensus or even collegiality.  POTUS is not himself a leader of Congress.  His skills are solitary.  He was known for yelling "Give me the ball!" at school basketball.  The performance this news cycle was not about himself.  No ball.  No hoop.   He was not asking for a vote.  He was asking for the unknown.  He sounded detached and sluggish.  Off his game?  Is it the polls?

Media Mob Turns on White House.

The blows will be disguised, but the blows will come.  The polling now shows a downward swoop that only POTUS at the fall UN opening ceremony utopia circus can steady.   The joy of the mob is that it only writes one story at a time, and the new headline is "Stumble."  What explains this sudden loss of momentum?  Healthcare's banal complexity?  It has always been with us.  Jobs?  Yes.  The loss of jobs is a poison.  No one is much listening to the White House, certainly not to the White House's boasting and preening and stern confidence.  Ever since POTUS returned form his Moscow adventure, the Politburo has been sober, contentious, strained.  Off its game, too.  No smiles. The chortling this day comes from Karl Rove in the WSJ, who leaps to this choice irony:

"Mr. Obama is also slipping on the economy. Those who strongly disapprove now outnumber those who strongly approve of his handling of the economy (35% to 29%), of deficits (38% to 19%), and of unemployment (31% to 26%). On Tuesday, Gallup showed Mr. Obama's personal approval was 55%, down from more than 60% a few weeks ago and lower than the 56% George W. Bush had at this point in his first term."

Jim Cramer is usually spot on with his introductory analysis of what causes the markets to move on his daily show. He may be a Democrat but his analyticals are about what "retail investors" should do or watch for to make a little money. A woman inquired today about a health care stock, and in pronouncing his verdict, he observed in passing that the stock would do well if Obama's health care plan passes, but it will also do well when the Senate kills the plan as too expensive. Not if, when. Ten days ago, Larry Kudlow was fretting over the possibility it might be passed. Late last week Kudlow started chortling that the plan was so bad it was GREAT for stocks because it would never pass, removing one foreboding cloud from the economy and thus the market. Pundits say Obama wants something, anything, he can call health care to sign, even if it doesn't have "health" in the title, so he can declare victory. I don't think he's going to get a scrap of paper large enough to write his name on, never mind some 1000-pg Trojan horse.

Don't be so sure about the media turning. It knows that if it turns, it will be turning on itself. All the effort, time and emotion to get Obama into the White House would have been for naught. Not to mention lost credibility.

Besides, who is there besides Obama that would be acceptable to the press? Repuplicans are still spineless poison. What's left? Hillary? Kerry? Gore? Losers, every one.

No, the press is wedded to Obama ('till death do them part). If Obama stumbles, the press stumbles. They will continue to gin him up. The vast majority of the public won't be fooled again. But what the public thinks won't matter. In an age of rampant ignorance, illiteracy, spin, bailouts and American Idol, it won't matter if you sell newspapers or not; if you have listeners or viewers or not. All you have to do is continue to spin the narrative: Obama is great! He has come to save us from ourselves. Bush did more damage than anyone imagined. The world is about to melt anyway. And so on and so on...

No, they won't let it go. They'll spin success as failure; failure as success. Already the NYT is publishing almost daily articles about Doing More With Less, Going Back to Basics and the like. They think they're preparing us for the senseless devastation that still lies ahead. They think they can make us feel good about it. And perhaps they could, if anyone still read their papers, or watched the evening news.

We’ve arrived at a crossroads in this country. It’s either them or us. Expecting the press to defect is like expecting Hillary or Michelle to divorce their husbands. If we, by simply sitting on our hands, can break this government choke hold on us (I hear that Government Motors global sales fell another 22% in the firs half of 2009 – strong work, people!), we will have shown the world that the concept of ‘revolution’ is not owned by the Left alone. It can be equally effective the other way around. It need not be violent. We do not seek their blood. We just want to put them back in their place by showing them that there’s more of us than there are of them.

Since the era of late, great Walter Cronkite, the unelected leadership of the MSM has been effectively running the nation. It is the one thing the founding fathers never foresaw could happen. The press selected Obama. If Obama fails, they fail. If the people prevail, the new media will dominate, and the NYT will no longer be in a position to make policy. I’m betting on an America in which The John Batchelor Show will be a primary source for "all the news that’s fit to print".

*Ain't it lovely!!*

Insurance companies sure do appreciate all the support everyone has for them and to show it, they have decided to send out a bonus mailer of stylized (full glossy) return address labels with the American Flag embossed on them to every household. Also included will be a friendly reminder to check your coverage so you and your family won't be caught with your knickers down when, you know, that thing that's coming finally arrives.

*Man o' man... you want to speak to an agent? What do you think this is, anyway? A lovefest?*

*ersatz*

I agree with Peter K -- we would wait in vain for the MSM to turn on Obama, no matter how great his failures may be, for he is not only their creature but their master, which is to say that, like Dr. Frankenstein, they have created a monster they cannot control without destroying themselves. The beauty part of it is that we no longer need the MSM; as this becomes increasingly obvious, this may be the moment when most of the American people wean themselves off MSM pablum once and for all. For example, how many will continue to take the MSM seriously when, huddled in ever-lengthening unemployment lines, they hear uncritical news reports of Rahm Emmanuel's latest hilarious claim, viz., that Obama's stimulus-porkulus has "rescued" the American economy from the depths of "the worst recession since the Great Depression?"

According to NPR, NYT today reported that how Obama plans to ensure that his health care scheme doesn't add to the deficit is the old fashioned way: fudge the numbers. Apparently $230+ BN or 20% was going to be cut from the medicare doctors' fees. Obama bought the AMA's endorsement by promising that the money wouldn't be cut after all. To prevent that some from "adding to the deficit" he said he simply wouldn't add it to the deficit number! This sounds a lot like "it all depends on what the definition of 'is' is." If Team Obama is planning to smoke this by a reluctant public by lying about it, don't bode well for its fate. I'm reasonably confident that the public won't fall for it.

While the cost issues involved constitute the clearest and easiest case to make against Obamacare, they are hardly the sole reason for opposing this unholy mess or, perhaps, even the most compelling. Over the last week, Betsey McCaughey -- an apparently intelligent woman who strangely flamed out as New York's Lieutentant Governor a few years back -- has recently published two columns in The New York Post that graphically reveal the horrifying, potentially deadly CONTENT of Obamacare. In today's column, McCaughey reminds us that one of the most important moving spirits behind Obamacare is Dr. Ezechiel Emanuel, who just happens to be Rahm the Thug's brother. (Chicago-on-the-Potomac strikes again!) As head of OMB's section on health policy and a member of the Federal Commission on Health Care Technology (name might not be exactly correct, but who not a left-wing bureaucrat can keep all this crap straight?) already set up by the stimulus-porkulus, Dr. Zeke is desperately inserting his pet peeves about US healthcare into the Obamacare legislation.

For example, according to McCaughey Dr. Zeke has written that the Hippocratic Oath is taken too seriously by doctors and is rather obsolete anyway. It should be superseded by what Dr. Zeke approvingly terms a "communitarian" standard by which doctors will be expected -- or forced -- to prescribe or withhold treatment based not on the clinically identified health needs of patients but on their relative social worth. This new criterion standard will set up an alleged cost-benefit calculus that will deny more than the most basic care to those who really cannot "participate fully" as citizens, especially those suffering from dementia. Which is to say the elderly (any of them), mentally retarded children, Down's Syndrome sufferers, and that's only part of a potentially lengthy list since "dementia" is a most conveniently flexible term. Rahm's doctor-brother even thinks that Americans have benefited too long from too easy access to health care facilities (e.g., too much parking space!) and timely doctor appointments in a way that, compared to the rest of the world (Canada? Cuba? Britain? Zimbabwe?), severely offends his self-proclaimed keen sense of "social justice," no doubt perfected by serving the famously altruistic Daley political machine back in Chicago.

This is only a sample of the horribles parade embedded in Obamacare, from which we can only conclude that Obamacare really means denying health care to Americans rather than delivering it. To put it plainly, for the sake of the ideological standard called "social justice" and cloaked in the cost-reduction flag-of-convenience, Obamacare will consciously and deliberately reduce the quality and quantity of health care it will vouchsafe to the heretofore overprivileged -- not to mention obese -- and ever-Ugly American. Thus to take us all down a well-deserved social peg or two -- rather like what Benito Hoover Obama is doing to the once free and prosperous US economy, no?

The White House hasn't presented a reform proposal, have they?

To the detriment of all, truth is being abducted and sequestered by a few, who in order to try to remain relevant and keep their fat checks rolling in, are presenting artificial concoctions in the guise of being "news."

RL, DM, NG, and all the others have been caught in the desperation. Everyday, it ticks upward with the rhetoric of "purposely wrecking" or "conspiracy" and/ or "treachery." It just makes me wonder.

Collectively, their fog machines are ginning out the clouds of deceit that roll through their nightmarish fiction. The commentators or bloggers, who have never conjured an original thought, then take their lead, add their own twists and broadcast it all far and wide. This then culminates in nothing being true or sacred and the collective falsifications sacrilege and abhorrent. It makes me wonder.

Just look at this healthcare/ health insurance debate. Makes me wonder who has who in their pocket.

Maybe, all that is consequential is answered with a question... who believes that the status quo and where it is taking us is acceptable?

You are so right "Tom from NJ". Betsy's article ought to be mailed to every household in the US, including the illegals. Finally someone has stated specifics as to what this health bill contains and it sure isn't for the betterment of the people. "Cost effective" measures are going to rule and "Zeek" will see to that! Just can't understand why so many are for this bill, except that they've heard "entitlements" for so long that it's become a way of life. Well, wait till they find out that "life" isn't included in this particular "way of life". The media, too, is pushing something that they have to believe is wrong for the nation and are just going along hanging on O's coattails. Anyone who has even skimmed this humongous bill has to know that it's an HMO for only those that are healthy -- even children and young adults will be denied care if the procedure isn't "cost effective" and they aren't a productive, contributing citizen. Where are all the moms that have children with special needs? Don't they know that their children will not be treated under this bill as they are now? Thanks for your comments, Tom, and also a big "thank you" to Betsy! Can't wait to hear her on tonite's show!
