Destroying the Smuggler Tunnels from Sinai is Working.

centers.  Hamas hides its rockets, weapons, ammunition and equipment underneath and in mosques, schools, hospitals and civilian housing.  The IDF cannot destroy all the ordnance from the air.  However the IDF can cut off the resupply of rockets, which is the only offensive threat.  Cut the tunnels, target the launch sites when possible, destroy the Hamas buildings, and reduce the options for Hamas strikes.  Also, the IDF is committed to targetted assassinations of Hamas leadership, what is called decapitation, and so far this is working to disorient the cadres.  However short of the ground action, the destruction of the tunnels is the most effective tactic.  It will take time.  Aaron Klein reported to me on Sunday 28 that 40 of 600 tunnels were taken out with penetrators in the first day.  Malcolm Hoenlein reported to me (30 December) that 40 more tunnels were taken out.  A big air strike on the tunnels was announced late in the evening in Israel.  First light in another hour in Gaza.  Look for strikes along the Rafak line in the south of Gaza.

What About the Egyptian Army?
Meanwhile the report in the last seven hours was the the Egyptian Army is on alert, leaves canceled, ready to mobilize.  Cairo has declared that it will only turn the Gaza crossings into Sinai over to the PA, not Hamas.  This means that the border is sealed, if it is accurate information.  The targeted Hamas leaders cannot flee with their weapons, though they can get out as civilians, or wounded, or dressed as women, all tactics used routinely in Hamas.  News now is that the Israeli Cabinet is debating a unilateral ceasefire as recommended by Bernard Kouchner of Paris.  Rejected this morning.  Watching to see if it is revived.

I note that Hamas is winning the propaganda war. Nearly every expert recruited for the news shows to opine about Israel’s invasion of Gaza is of Arab origin. All are said to teach at one American university or another. All have published books and attained high academic standing. Their analysis is heavily weighted in favor of the Palestinians. These are the people who teach our children and this is the reasons that we now find kids protesting Israeli aggression in New York, London, Oslo, Jakarta, Sydney and, of course, in every capital throughout the Middle East. As time drags on, these protests are sure to spread and disrupt the functioning of every major economic hub.

Marx envisioned societies in constant upheaval; constant revolution in which the poor rise up against the rich and powerful. Though his devotees have made great inroads in recent years all over the world, they haven’t been able to crack America where the poor are more likely to be overweight while the rich starve themselves. The (SOP protocol) template had to be recast in order to reflect current realities. Marxists now see the world as essentially two worlds: one is the world of nations; the other is America. America represents the one remaining stumbling block toward achieving their Utopian vision. Therefore, the nations of the world have to be mobilized to rise up against America and destroy it (if only to remove evidence of the utter inadequacy of their own considered sacred design).

They’ve contrived the “global warming” hoax, for example, which pits the world against American plenty. They call for open borders which would dilute American sovereignty; universal health care, which would empty the American treasury; the UN, which pits American foreign policy against world policy of not giving a rat’s rear end for Israel’s survival; etc. Each one of these represents a straw dog to be swept out with the refuse once the cleansing has been achieved, but each one nevertheless marks America with the distinction of being the odd man out.

When we talk of “world government”, therefore, we talk of a world apart (from us); a world in which America is always on the defensive. Much of this has seeped into the thinking of America’s own, most notably into the public pronouncements and stated beliefs of academe, the press, and the Democrat Party.

600 tunnels? There must be some technology to discover tunnels from an airplane or satelite.

Peter Koelliker:

Right on! Every word you have written above is bang on target. To throw in my two cents worth, I would only add that our left-of-center elites in academia, the MSM, various bureaucracies at home and abroad, etc., have a common interest with the Marxist internationalists you so accurately describe -- namely, impoverishing and enslaving the American middle class, the last prosperous-because-they-are-free and free-because-they-are-prosperous people left on the face of the earth, and therefore the bane of every elitist ideologue, religious fanatic, and fascist power-monger the world over. Hence, the generally favorable reception for Hamas propaganda, among other inanities, no matter how factually absurd.

Anyway, good job, Peter. Have a Happy New Year!

Who cares who's winning the propaganda war? Pointless chatter.
What does it matter?
Lives are being lost on both sides- that is the only thing of any importance because each death is a new link in the chain, ensuring continued conflict in the future. Do you want more of the same, year in and year out? I don't. I want my children to inherit a peaceful world, no matter how out of reach the "realists" may say that is.
Now, to back up, I'm not completely against someone using force (personally I don't care who)- but I'm very much against drawing this out. Israel and Palestine need to to stop playing footsie with each other here. It is truly frustrating and offensive to watch. Let's either do this thing OR let's have NOT ONE more death. And may I ask what has happened to the FACT that Israel was created by outsiders? How is this irrelevant to the discussion? Why is there a de-facto right to exist for Israel? Does that mean I can I invent a country if my religion demands it and it just so happens it needs to be in your living room? If anything, their right to exist SHOULD be in question. Personally I feel it's like the Iraq war- a terrible idea- should never have happened- but we have to deal with the reality of it, and now Israel has every right to exist as does Palestine. If they continue to play footsie, a third power should wipe them both off the map.

2009 has brought us into a new era, particularly with regard to warfare: the asymmetrical version of same in which the weaker side in any conflict is given a better than even chance. The idea is not new. There was, of course, David and Goliath, the Japanese kamikazes (to some extent), and a whole host of TV and movie dramas (for some reason "Fatal Attraction" comes to mind), all exploiting a similar theme. Never in my lifetime have we seen it played out on such a massive scale as on the battlefields of Gaza.

Whereas previous wars were fought mostly over land (borders), religious identity, or treasure, today's wars are fought over ideology. This makes it infinitely more virulent, for borders, treasure and religious dogma conform to relatively fixed positions, while ideology is fluid and flows wherever the political terrain will accept it (generally down, at the lowest possible elevation).

Hamas is essentially telling the Israelis, “We will kill you. We accept nothing less than your total annihilation. We will throw as many of our living and dead bodies at you and your (admittedly) superior (American) war machine as it takes to bring you to your knees. We are not afraid to die. In fact, we welcome it. We challenge you to die a death of a thousand cuts or to commit genocide. Should you choose the latter, you will stand condemned before the world, and the world will then have no other choice than to exact its revenge.”

"You can trust no one in our population not to kill you," ... "Unless you get rid of all of us, you will die." This is very dangerous; it's an invitation to genocide. …

Charles Krauthammer said (Fox News) that to even consider a ceasefire means they (Kadima/Israel) will lose (again).
