Am ready to iPad. But am not ready to deal with AT&T's network. A compromise is to wait for Verizon. What the MacBookPro lacks is a wireless connection when outside of trusted hotzones. Then again, how connected is enough? The BlackBerry is still the trusted email tool, and this makes the iPad a junior version of the MacBookPro screen. A novelty.

Apple i tunes versus Amazon. I would not bet against Apple.
School and College texts are going electronic, will the prices come down?
Middle of the watchman's duties last eve, I weakened and ordered IPad, 64gig, with case and keyboard. Did not get the ATT version, as I refuse to deal with that nightmare. Just the wireless version. Will use it as a sidebar to my MacBookPro and see what it can do online.
i fully understand. i owned a lisa and still miss her. she was ... elegant and beautiful. i despise bill gates but truly loathe ballmer.
i had a long conversation with the coo of an academic publishing house last week. they are still in the mode of electronic media as a premium add-on to their regular publications. i tried to explain to him that the world was changing. they sort of get it but have trouble with the cannibalization of their existing business model. he invited me to give a talk at one of their brown bag lunches.
i would not bet against apple either. at least as long as jobs is lurking. i will be patient though.
btw one of the most magical and wonderful aspects of itunes is itunesU (tab at the top of the page). video and audio podcasts of lectures, courses, and full course sequences from faculty at major universities. FREE. i am currently doing a 5 course sequence in physics for old engineer/quant guys- quantum mechanics at the moment- by leonard suskind one for founders of string theory and a chair at stanford. on a 32 gig ipod touch- 53 lectures- 103 hours of video. changes the rules on learning. learning is global. FREE. staggering.
Sapientia, the price of anything related to college (text, tuition, etc) will NEVER come down as long as a government subsidy (grant or loan) exists. What college, university, or book publisher would ever leave (possibly free) money on the table?
