The Obama administration did not consult Congress and was handed its severed head when it tried to plead poverty and priority. Congress loves Big Space. NASA is Big Space. Michael Coats at Johnson Manned Space Center has now drawn up a plan B that will continue the Orion and Ares programs. The coup is done. NASA, ten years to the moon; Obama administration, zero.

Not time yet to celebrate. Even if the current administration were to pass a series of bills that would conform precisely to every one of your wishes and desires, you yourself would oppose them because you would know that their promises are empty; that there will be no follow through. This government has squandered the trust of the people it claims to represent. Yes, there are problems on every front (including health care; education; immigration; etc.) But this government does not have the mandate to fix anything - even if that fix were to guarantee every claim made. This government has already failed. It cannot redeem itself. That is why all the hand wringing about this and that is quite beside the point.
To see where we are headed, we must only look at Greece. Years of left-wing governance has left that country in ruins. The Left is quite satisfied to underscore the point of what they have managed to achieve. As we speak, they are celebrating in the streets of Athens. This is no protest; this is a victory lap. Angela Merkel knows the target was never Greece per se. The target is the Euro.

After two deadly shuttle disasters, NASA has revisited the riskiness of manned space flight. We put a man on the moon, can we reasonably expect to maintain a moon colony?
The Mars Rovers continue to bring back data that manned missions could not, and certainly not for the same budget.
