His Holiness the Dalai Lama meets POTUS Obama in the Roosevelt Room at the White House these hours, and the Standing Committee of the Politburo in Beijing loses face by the hour as well. Spoke Gordon Chang, Forbes.com, on Wed 17, re the delayed meeting between the Dalai Lama and POTUS. Gordon asserts that China will retaliate or risk losing face for the threats it has made these last weeks -- warning the White House to shun the Dalai Lama. His Holiness is a secret weapon. Where he goes, goes freedom of thought. That the Beijing bullies cannot stop him or frighten him or cage him is a measure of their weakness and frail purchase on current events. POTUS erred badly when he did not meet the Dalai Lama last fall prior to his hasty, incoherent, obsequious and mediocre visit to mainland China. POTUS now must correct his error by standing up to Beijing's truculence. Bending to tyrants makes them stronger. Confronting tyrants weakens them. POTUS George Bush understood. POTUS Bill Clinton understood. Lesson learned from the secret weapon in the Roosevelt Room.

Not the Oval office? Will he greet him at the door? True he is not a head of state, but a significant religious leader. Compare to the leader of the Mormon church and Archbishop of Canterbury. Fellow Nobel winner. Maybe they can bring their medals?
Dalai Lama got medal the old fashioned way. He earned it.
"His Holiness is a secret weapon. Where he goes, freedom of thought goes."
A statement so bold as to border on the unintentionally comic. Perhaps this Dalai Lama fellow that my liberal friends put so much stock in ought to pay a brief visit to the Philadelphia airport, where one of the Thugs Standing Around ordered a crippled four-year-old to remove his braces and crawl like some animal through a metal detector. It's not the tyrants ten thousand miles away that I give a damn about, but the ones right here at home.
There are those who wonder whether or not there will be repercussions from this little courtesy call. China is losing face. China does not like losing face. In Asia, losing face is everything. China will retaliate.
It does not matter that the Dalai Lama was asked to enter and leave by the back door where the garbage is put out. China will retaliate. China can retaliate. With a mere whisper they can send our economy into a tailspin from which it can never recover.
That’s playing pretty fast and loose for this POTUS person; pretty bold move on his part. Why? We know, given his history and associations, that he cares nothing about ‘freedom of thought’ going anywhere. Just today it has become clear that Barack Hussein Obama does not give a tinker’s cuss about what Americans think. He plans on ramming his health care package down our throats anyway. We know that he never loses even a wink of sleep thinking about the long-suffering inmates of the gulag known as ‘Iran’. We can well imagine that one such as he cannot even find Tibet on a political map.
Why, then, this gesture, half-hearted as it is? Perhaps it is to provoke China into responding. Perhaps America’s economic collapse is his goal after all. Perhaps he envisions himself as the man who cleansed the world of its most despicable evil: the dollar, America’s single most powerful tool of oppression. Perhaps he wonders why it hasn’t happened already. God knows he’s tried harder than any man to send it over the edge. Maybe he thinks with a little spiritual help from the Dalai Lama he’ll be able to get it done.
It’s odd to think that the Dalai Lama is consenting to being used in this way; odd to think that he’s unaware of his potential role in a saga in which so many will be hurt.

"We can well imagine that one such as he cannot even find Tibet on a political map."
Agreed. It becomes clearer each day that, like Legacy Ivy Leaguer Bush before him, Affirmative Action Ivy Leaguer Obama simply doesn't know very much about the world and how it works.
First question: What do we owe Tibet?
Next question: What do we owe China?
