Am stumped if this is a fresh, bubbly direction for the Obama administration -- to encourage endorsements of Obamacare by clearly uninformed and uninvolved performers? Does this trite cuteness favor confirmation of the 60 ancient senators who are constructing a mandate that all youthful and indifferent citizens must spend money on healthcare? Or does this trite cuteness underline why it is wise not to try to look hip when debating 2733 pages of Federal legislation? Oddly, this reminds of a Christmas liturgy where the pastors and priests try to be trendy with guitars and dancing while everyone in the pews just wants candle-holding angels singing "O Little Town of Bethlehem," on their way to the cookies.
I would tell those young adults who will assume the burden of taxes and healthcare costs for a half century or longer ... man up. To quote Judge Judy when she chastises a plaintiff's choice of mate 'you picked em'. Now they have change they can believe in. Get a government job and have the taxpayers pick up your healthcare. Be a congressperson and be a burden to the taxpayers forever.
Don't tempt me Mark! Job security is nil in the commercial sector, and Government employees get 2-3 times better benefits! The pull toward Washington DC is getting stronger and stronger!
JB - Thanks for pointing this out, especially for those of us who no longer watch TV. Clever use of the Pavlovian method to buttress what is already being taught in schools. Difficult to judge the degree to which individual performers can be thought of as sincere. Probably scripted by recent advertising graduate and funded by stimulus. Look for more of the same vulgarity to replace the existing vulgarity (ED, Viagra, colon cleansing tonic, etc. advertising) on talk radio.
I couldn't help noticing: We had visitors yesterday - a young Brazilian couple; distant relatives - who were espousing similar sentiments as the clip above. They couldn't stay long; they still had to go home and pack. This morning they were off to the Dominican Republic for their annual Christmas vacation. The wife generally stays home with the kids; the husband works for Citi in New York.
I've noticed the above video features Eva Amurri. The 24 year old actress is the daughter of Susan Sarandon and step daughter of Tim Robbins. Eva is currently featured in the Showtime series Californication. She plays a topless dancer with literary talent and a heart of gold. Her role mainly consists of flashing her ample bosom and pleasuring the star David Duchovney.
It seems Eva's political views are in line with her family. However, given her wealth and talent, Eva's biggest concern should not be healthcare reform, but gravity.
